Why Yellowed Stone Floors Often Need Stripping
A yellow cast can come from aging wax, acrylic, or crystallization—not from the stone itself. Removing the coating reveals the real restoration needs.
Why yellowing happens
Topical products oxidize, collect soil, and wear unevenly. Sunlight and cleaning chemicals can speed the color change, while moisture trapped under the coating can contribute to peeling or discoloration.
A new layer of wax may make the surface look darker and glossier for a short time, but it does not remove the failing material underneath.
What happens after removal
Stripping exposes the stone so it can be cleaned and evaluated. The next step may be polishing, honing, grinding, or a penetrating sealer depending on the condition underneath.
A controlled wet process reduces airborne dust and keeps residue contained. The final recommendation should be based on the stone you actually have, not the appearance created by the old coating.
