How to Care for a Honed Stone Finish
Honed stone has a low-sheen finish, but it still needs clean tools, neutral products, spill response, and periodic sealing.
Keep matte from becoming dirty
Because a honed finish has less reflection, residue can collect without looking dramatic at first. Sweep away grit, wipe spills promptly, and use a stone-safe cleaner instead of a product that leaves wax or shine enhancers behind.
Soft microfiber tools are safer than rough pads. Rinse cleaning tools often so they do not move grit across the surface.
When a honed surface needs help
Dark traffic lanes, etched patches, and uneven texture may need professional honing or cleaning. A new sealer can support stain resistance, but it will not erase wear that has changed the surface.
Ask for a small finish sample when changing from polished to honed or when matching an adjacent room. The same stone can look substantially different at different sheen levels.
