Why Vinegar Is Not Safe for Marble
Vinegar is useful on some household surfaces, but its acidity can etch calcium-based stones such as marble, limestone, and travertine.
Acid attacks the finish
Marble is largely made of calcium carbonate, which reacts with acids. Vinegar can leave a dull spot even when it is diluted, especially when it sits around a sink or on a countertop.
The damage may look like a pale ring, cloudy patch, or loss of reflection. It is not dirt that needs stronger scrubbing.
Use a stone-safe alternative
For routine cleaning, use warm water and a soft cloth or a cleaner specifically labeled for natural stone. Wipe spills quickly and avoid products designed to dissolve mineral scale unless a professional confirms they are safe for the material.
If vinegar has already etched the surface, professional honing or polishing can restore an even finish. Sealing helps with absorption but does not prevent acid etching.
