When to Consider an Anti-Etch Treatment for Marble
Anti-etch treatments are designed for acidic spill risk. They complement sealing but do not make marble completely immune to acid damage.
Who benefits most
Busy kitchens, islands, bars, and dining areas see repeated contact with citrus, wine, tomato, and vinegar. If you love the look of polished marble but worry about everyday etching, an anti-etch treatment is worth discussing.
The treatment is different from a penetrating sealer. Sealing slows staining from absorption, while anti-etch protection addresses the way acid affects the stone surface.
Keep expectations realistic
No treatment makes marble fully etch-proof. Spills should still be wiped promptly, and the surface should still be cleaned with stone-safe products.
Ask for a treatment plan that considers the stone, current finish, and future maintenance. Existing etching must be corrected before protection can produce an even result.
