A Simple Daily Care Routine for Marble Countertops
Prompt spill cleanup, soft cloths, stone-safe cleaner, and a few kitchen habits make a measurable difference to marble countertops.
Four habits that protect the finish
Wipe spills as soon as they happen, especially citrus, wine, vinegar, tomato, and oily foods. Use a clean microfiber cloth, a pH-neutral stone cleaner, and a cutting board rather than preparing acidic foods directly on the surface.
Trivets protect against heat and small appliances should not drag grit across the stone. These habits reduce both chemical etching and abrasive wear.
Know what sealing does
A penetrating sealer slows absorption and gives you more time to clean a spill, but it does not make marble acid-proof or scratch-proof. A dull ring around the sink may be etching or lost polish rather than a failed sealer.
If the finish no longer looks even after cleaning, have the surface assessed before trying a household polish. The wrong product can leave residue that complicates professional restoration.
