How Los Angeles Sunlight Affects Natural Stone Care
Sunlight does not replace cleaning or sealing, but it can reveal uneven finishes, warm some coatings, and speed visible wear in exposed areas.
The finish changes how light reads
A polished floor can show every change in reflection as the sun moves across the room. A honed finish scatters light more softly, but uneven residue or wear can still become visible in bright daylight.
Curtains and rugs may create zones that age at different rates. When matching a repair, compare the stone in the same lighting where the difference is most noticeable.
Be careful with surface coatings
Topical coatings can yellow or wear unevenly under traffic and sunlight. Penetrating sealers do not sit on top as a visible film, but the surface still needs normal spill and grit protection.
Outdoor stone also needs attention to water, leaves, and organic growth. Choose a maintenance plan that fits the exposure instead of relying on shine alone.
