Five Signs Your Natural Stone Needs Restoration, Not Just Cleaning
Dull spots, uneven tile edges, etching, old coatings, and recurring stains are signs that mopping alone will not restore the stone.
Look past surface dirt
Cleaning removes soil that sits on or near the surface. Restoration addresses physical wear in the stone itself. Dull halos around a sink, deep scratches, uneven seams, and a finish that stays flat after cleaning all point to a deeper issue.
Old wax or crystallization can create a plastic-looking surface that attracts more dirt. A penetrating sealer can help with staining, but it cannot level a floor or remove an acid-etched spot.
The five common warning signs
Watch for lippage between tiles, scratches that catch a fingernail, etch marks from citrus or vinegar, yellowed coatings, and stains that return after the floor dries. These problems often need grinding, honing, polishing, stripping, or a coordinated combination of services.
A free on-site estimate is the safest way to distinguish a simple deep clean from a full restoration. Treating the symptom with a new coating can make the eventual repair more difficult.
