Matte or Glossy Marble: Which Finish Works in a High-Traffic Room?
A honed finish hides some everyday wear while a polished finish maximizes light and reflection. Consider traffic, glare, and maintenance before deciding.
Honed finishes are quieter
Honing leaves the stone smooth with a low sheen. It can be a comfortable choice for busy hallways, family rooms, and stairs where you want less glare and a finish that does not spotlight every footprint.
A honed surface still needs cleaning and sealing. Its lower sheen should not be mistaken for a protective coating.
Polished finishes are brighter
Polishing emphasizes veining and reflects more light, which can make a formal entryway or lobby feel larger. It also shows scratches, etching, and dull zones more clearly.
Your choice should follow the condition of the stone and the look you want to maintain. A technician can create a sample area so you can compare the finishes in the actual room.
